President Trump has admitted that he made a mistake by skipping the ceremony commemorating Veterans Day at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday.
“I should have done that,” Trump told Fox News’ Chris Wallace in an interview set to air Sunday, a rare admission of error by the president.
“In retrospect, I should have and I did last year and I will virtually every year.”
He didn’t have time for the event — which President Obama attended every year — because he was busy working the phones, he said.
“I was extremely busy on calls for the country,” he said, without elaborating.
Trump — who had no public events on Monday, when Veterans Day was observed — took heat this week for not laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington.
His decision came just days after he also skipped a ceremony at a World War I cemetery in France where hundreds of American Marines were buried — because it was raining.
The commander-in-chief, who often speaks of his loyalty to the US military, blamed the Secret Service for the no-show in France.
